Abstract:Maximizing outdoor living space is a common challenge in premium real estate, where homeowners often desire both high-intensity aquatic fitness and relaxing hydrotherapy without the footprint of a traditional swimming pool. This case study explores the successful installation of a premium dual-zone swim spa within the confined garden of a luxury villa. By examining the logistical challenges, the landscape design integration, and the specific technical capabilities of the SR850 model—we provide a comprehensive guide on how to transform a compact backyard into a year-round, world-class wellness retreat.
In modern luxury real estate, particularly in densely populated urban or upscale suburban areas, outdoor space is often at a premium. Homeowners frequently envision their backyards as personal sanctuaries that offer both recreational and therapeutic benefits. The traditional approach to achieving this vision involves constructing a standard swimming pool for exercise and a separate hot tub for relaxation. However, this dual-installation method requires an extensive footprint, which is simply not feasible for small garden layouts.
The challenge in this specific luxury villa project was clear: the client wanted the cardiovascular benefits of a lap pool and the stress-relieving properties of a high-end massage spa, but the garden dimensions severely restricted their options. The solution required an innovative approach to aquatic wellness, leading the design team to specify a high-performance, dual-zone swim spa. This case study breaks down the entire process, from the initial product selection based on precise factory specifications to the final landscape integration, proving that limited space does not mean compromising on luxury.
When dealing with spatial constraints, selecting the exact right equipment is the most critical step. After evaluating the available garden area, the design and engineering team selected the SR850 model. This specific unit offered the perfect hybrid solution through its advanced dual-zone architecture.

A standard swim spa features a single body of water, meaning the temperature must be a compromise between cooler swimming conditions and warmer relaxation conditions. The SR850 entirely bypasses this limitation. The unit is physically divided into two independent sections:
With an overall packing dimension of 5950mm x 2300mm x 1400mm, the SR850 provided a massive amount of utility within a highly controlled, predictable footprint, making it the ideal candidate for the villa's narrow garden geometry.
To truly function as two separate wellness amenities, a dual-zone spa must possess independent brains and heating capabilities. Both the SPA part and the Pool part are equipped with their own high-end Canada Gecko control systems. Furthermore, each zone is powered by its own dedicated 5.5KW (220-240VAC) heater.
This technological setup was a major selling point for the villa owner. It allows the swimming zone to be maintained at an invigorating 26°C (78°F) for morning triathlon training, while the spa zone is kept at a soothing 39°C (102°F) for evening muscle recovery. The ability to utilize contrast water therapy in a small backyard elevated the property's luxury status significantly.
Installing a machine of this magnitude into a confined space requires meticulous engineering and logistical foresight. A swim spa is not a simple drop-in appliance; it is a significant piece of structural infrastructure.

While the dry weight of the unit is a manageable 850 KG, the filled weight—accommodating its massive 9,400-liter (2,482 US Gallon) water capacity—skyrockets to 10,250 KG.
To support over ten tons of concentrated weight, standard garden paving was entirely insufficient. The engineering team excavated a specific footprint in the garden and poured a 20cm thick, steel-reinforced concrete slab. This specialized foundation ensured that the immense hydraulic weight would not cause soil subsidence, which could lead to structural cracking of the spa shell over time.

Because the villa's side gates were too narrow to permit a forklift or a flatbed trailer, the delivery of the 6-meter-long spa had to be executed from above. A heavy-duty mobile crane was stationed on the street at the front of the property. The SR850, securely harnessed and balanced, was carefully hoisted over the three-story villa and gently lowered onto the prepared concrete pad in the rear garden. This dramatic delivery method is increasingly common in urban luxury renovations and requires perfect coordination between the transport team, the crane operator, and the local traffic authorities.
For a luxury villa, aesthetics are just as important as functionality. Placing a large, above-ground acrylic box in a small garden can easily overwhelm the space and ruin the visual harmony. To prevent this, the landscaping team employed a semi-sunken deck integration strategy.
Rather than sinking the spa completely into the ground—which drastically increases excavation costs and complicates future maintenance access—the team opted to build a custom, multi-tiered composite wood deck around the unit.
The SR850 was placed on its ground-level concrete pad, and the decking was constructed to meet the spa exactly halfway up its cabinet height. This approach created a visually pleasing terrace effect. The steps leading up to the spa were widened to serve as casual seating areas, while the surrounding deck hid the bulk of the spa's height, making the massive 5950mm unit look like a deliberate, integrated architectural feature rather than an afterthought.
A crucial feature that enabled this tight integration was the spa's structural integrity. The SR850 utilizes a #304 Stainless Steel support frame. Unlike wooden frames that might warp or degrade in a semi-enclosed deck environment due to moisture, the #304 stainless steel guarantees absolute corrosion resistance and structural rigidity. This allowed the carpenters to build the decking extremely close to the spa's brown/grey skirt without fear of future structural shifting.
Once installed and filled, the true value of the SR850 was realized. The villa owners now had access to a commercial-grade wellness center just steps from their living room.
The swimming experience in the pool section is driven by immense hydraulic power. According to the 'SPA quotation (SR850) 2022.5.10.xls', the pool part is equipped with three massive 3.0HP swim pumps, supplemented by an additional 2.0HP jet pump and a dedicated 1HP circulation pump. These pumps push water through 9 specialized swim jets, creating a smooth, wide, and fully adjustable current. Whether the user wants to practice a gentle breaststroke or engage in high-intensity freestyle training, the propulsion system accommodates all fitness levels without the user ever hitting the end of the pool.
After a rigorous workout, the user can simply step over the dividing wall into the hot water of the SPA zone. This section is a masterpiece of hydrotherapy engineering. The SPA part alone features 71 total jets, including 62 targeted massage jets and 9 air jets. Powered by two independent 2.0HP jet pumps and a 1.0HP air blower, this zone delivers deep-tissue relief to the back, calves, and feet.
The premium Aristech Acrylic shell ensures that the ergonomic seating feels comfortable against the skin, while the built-in 5' LED underwater lighting transforms the night-time soaking experience, illuminating the bubbling water and creating a serene, visually stunning focal point in the garden.
A major concern for the villa owner was the maintenance burden of such a large body of water. However, modern swim spas are designed for autonomous efficiency.
To keep the 9,400 liters of water crystal clear with minimal chemical use, the SR850 employs a sophisticated filtration system. The inclusion of two front-access filters with a 100 sq. ft. effective filtration area. Working in tandem with the dedicated circulation pumps and a 200mg/h Ozone Generator, this system continuously destroys bacteria and organic contaminants. This drastically reduces the need for harsh chlorine, making the water softer on the skin and easier to manage for the homeowner.
Running two 5.5KW heaters and multiple high-horsepower pumps could lead to substantial electricity bills. However, the SR850 is engineered for maximum thermal retention. High-density insulation applied to the shell and the cabinet, combined with a heavy-duty thermal cover, traps the heat inside the water. This means that even during the colder winter months, the villa owners can enjoy a steaming hot massage or a comfortable swim without worrying about excessive energy consumption.
This luxury villa case study serves as a powerful testament to the transformative potential of modern aquatic engineering. By choosing the SR850 dual-zone swim spa—the homeowners successfully bypassed the spatial limitations of their small garden.
They did not have to choose between fitness and relaxation; they achieved both at the highest possible standard. The integration of advanced Canada Gecko control systems, a rust-proof #304 stainless steel frame, and a massive array of hydrotherapy and swim jets resulted in an unparalleled at-home wellness experience. For homeowners, architects, and landscape designers looking to maximize the utility and luxury of compact outdoor spaces, the dual-zone swim spa represents the ultimate, uncompromising solution, significantly elevating both the lifestyle of the residents and the overall market value of the property.
